Our approach centered on addressing the critical usability issues through a structured design process. We followed the Double Diamond methodology, which allowed us to break down the problem and create effective solutions.

Challenges

Navigating Complex UX and Usability Issues.

EdTech Society's website struggled with a clunky membership form and confusing navigation. Users found it difficult to engage effectively. Our mission was to redesign the site, improving accessibility, streamlining the membership process, and simplifying event discovery.

UX Audit and Heuristic analysis

Audit report & analysis

Because this was a redesign project, we began with an audit and heuristic analysis to identify the UX issues with current website. We documented all the UX and usability problems we found. We initially focused to solve these issues first.

Key findings

  • The old membership form, a crucial part of the site, was poorly designed.
  • The site navigation was inadequate.
  • The overall appearance lacked consistency, including color and text.

Persona Creation

Considering the main target audience (Professors and students), we segmented them into four groups based on their tech proficiency and teaching experience. We identified three primary user groups and created a persona for each.

Information Architecture

Improving navigation was a critical aspect of the redesign process. We revamped the navigation, The old navigation was disorganized, and the CTA button was not minimal.
We also recreated entire navigation system and developed an updated sitemap.

Design

The association lacked a brand or design guideline, leading to inconsistent use of color and text in the older website. We established a basic design system, enabling us to create a consistent-looking site.

The Events page, where users can see all upcoming and past events with speaker info, date, and time, was designed to be as engaging as possible. We added a filter option on the left for quick access to desired events.

Overcoming the Inconsistent Branding Challenge

One of the significant challenges we faced was the lack of a consistent brand identity on the website. Without established design guidelines, creating a cohesive user experience was difficult. However, by establishing a basic design system, we overcame this roadblock, ensuring a unified look across the site.
